Ethylene-Vinyl Alcohol Copolymer EVOH E105B

In the food, medical, agricultural, and other packaging industries, how to improve product freshness, extend shelf life, and reduce transport losses has become the focus of attention for brand owners and processors. Material selection, on the other hand, is the first step towards achieving these goals.

EVOH (ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer) is widely used in multilayer co-extruded film structures because of its excellent gas barrier properties. EVOH E105B plastic pellets from Kuraray, Japan, have found a good balance between performance and processing friendliness, and are becoming the mainstream choice in the market.

EVOH E105B

Why Choose EVOH E105B?

1. Excellent oxygen barrier performance, extending the shelf life

E105B has an extremely low oxygen transmission rate (OTR). In vacuum packaging and modified atmosphere packaging, it can effectively inhibit oxidation reactions and extend the shelf life of food. Its "molecular sieve" structure makes it difficult for oxygen molecules to penetrate, and it is an ideal alternative to the traditional PA6+PE structure.

2. Excellent mechanical properties and structural stability

  • Tensile strength: 29 MPa
  • Flexural modulus: 4800 MPa
  • Notched impact strength: 2 kJ/m²

This means that the film is resistant to rupture during blowing, thermoforming, transport, etc., and has sufficient stiffness to be used in stand-up pouches, thermoformed trays, and other demanding packaging structures.

3. Wide processing adaptability and support for a variety of co-extrusion structures

E105B has a melting point of 165°C. It can be applied to common co-extrusion blown film, cast film, and other processes, and has good compatibility with PE, PA, EAA, EMAA, and other materials. Whether it is a 5-layer, 7-layer, or 9-layer film structure, it can be flexibly matched.

How To Judge Whether E105B Is Fits Your Project?

Among the many EVOH grades, E105B is a general-purpose material with medium ethylene content that maintains good barrier properties while facilitating processing and flow control. It is especially suitable for the following situations:

Requirement E105B's Suitability
High oxygen barrier requirement ✔ Extremely low OTR
Multi-layer co-extrusion structure design ✔ Excellent compatibility
Transparency requirement ✔ Clear and high transparency
Heat sealability and thermoforming needs ✔ Stable melting point, suitable for thermal processing

Processing Suggestions and Precautions

1. Drying treatment: It is recommended to dry to a moisture content of <0.1% before use, to prevent degradation due to moisture absorption.

2. Processing temperature range: It is recommended to be controlled between 170~230°C, for stable processing.

3. Co-extruded with the suggestion: with PE, EAA, EMAA, PA, etc., for the best adhesion effect.

4. Membrane structure suggestion: suitable for 5/7/9 layers of co-extruded membrane. Support rigid/soft design.
