Polyolefin Elastomer Overview - Dow POE 8100
In the application scenarios of wires and cables, elastic material modification, and high-filling systems, traditional polyolefins are often limited by insufficient cross-linking, insufficient fluidity, and poor deformation recovery. Dow POE 8100 is a solution for this.
As a universal polyolefin elastomer based on ethylene-octene copolymer, POE 8100 takes into account flow processing, mechanical toughness, and thermal aging weather resistance, and shows strong adaptability in modified formulas in multiple fields.
01 | Polyolefin Elastomer highlights: Flexible support platform with balanced performance
・Excellent tensile and fracture performance: elongation at break reaches 810%, tensile strength reaches 9.76 MPa, providing bottom layer support for structural materials requiring high deformation and energy absorption;
・Tear strength reaches 40 KN/m, meeting the needs of shear-sensitive products such as thin walls and cable sheaths;
・Moderate hardness (Shore A 73 / D 22), suitable for various structures such as flexible layers, cushion layers, transition layers, etc.;
・Melt index 1.0 g/10min, with a good processing window, suitable for injection molding, extrusion, and composite processes;
・Crosslinking + high filling adaptability: supports the addition of fillers such as talcum powder and calcium carbonate, and still maintains flexibility and resilience;
・High insulation and heat aging resistance, improving its durability in wire and cable sheaths.
02 | Scenario application: Flexible solutions shared by multiple industries
✅ Cable and wire sheaths:
Polyolefin elastomer 8100's low specific gravity (0.870 g/cm³), good fluidity and flexibility make it a reliable material for cable insulation sheaths, especially suitable for electric vehicle cables, outdoor communication cables and other fields with high requirements for weather resistance.
✅ Plastic toughening modification:
In PP, TPO, PA and other systems, POE 8100 can be introduced as a toughening agent to provide a more flexible fracture response capability, while also having a structural support effect, suitable for bumpers, tool housings, home appliance parts and other products.
✅ Foaming and structural elastomers:
Thanks to its cross-linking ability and Mooney viscosity (24 MU), polyolefin elastomer 8100 can be used in conjunction with elastomers such as EVA and EPDM to make sports shoe midsoles, industrial cushioning pads, sealing strips and other products, with both support and elastic recovery.

A South China cable manufacturer used EPDM modified PE material to produce home decoration cables, which had problems such as surface adhesion and slow processing. After we recommended the introduction of POE 8100 (20% addition), the product fluidity increased by 35%, the apparent defects were significantly reduced, the finished product yield increased from 87% to 96%, and successfully passed the UL-94 and heat aging tests.
