What is RADEL® R-5800
RADEL® R-5800 is a series of high-performance transparent grades of polyphenylsulfone (PPSU) developed by Solvay. This series combines excellent optical properties, mechanical strength, high-temperature resistance, and flame retardancy, while also offering good dimensional stability and electrical insulation.
It is suitable for high-end applications such as medical devices, food contact components, electrical insulation, and heat-resistant transparent parts.
The RADEL® R-5800 series currently includes the following three grades:
・PPSU R-5800 TR YL551 (yellow transparent tint)
・PPSU R-5800 TR BU501 (blue transparent tint)
・PPSU R-5800 TR VT511 (purple transparent tint)
All three grades share core performance characteristics, differing primarily in their optical appearance and flame retardancy performance at varying thicknesses, providing customers with flexible options based on their design and application scenarios.

-Transparent grade materials can provide clarity and color design freedom in medical devices and optical components.
-All three models are available in different color versions (yellow, blue, and purple), which are suitable for brand differentiation and product identification.

-Tensile strength: approximately 69.6 MPa
-Tensile modulus: 2340 MPa
-Bending strength: 91 MPa
-Impact strength of cantilever beam without notch: 70.4 kJ/m²

Thermal performance
-Heat distortion temperature (1.8MPa) : 207°C
-Glass transition temperature (Tg) : 220°C
-It can remain stable for a long time in high-temperature environments and is not prone to deformation.

-Volume resistance: 9E+15 Ω·cm
-Insulation strength: 15 KV/mm

Flame retardant performance
-UL94 Fire resistance rating: V-0 (full thickness range from 0.25mm to 3mm)
-It meets strict flame retardant standards and is suitable for the safety requirements of industries such as medical care, electronics, and transportation.

04 | Procurement Suggestions
If you need high transparency and brand color recognition → choose YL551 (yellow), BU501 (blue), VT511 (purple).
If you are concerned about the flame retardant consistency under thickness → YL551 and BU501 are more stable.
If you need a special appearance to distinguish (such as purple for high-end medical equipment) → VT511 is the first choice.
