On February 25, 2026, Yuhan-Kimberly<\/strong> announced the launch of \u201cKleenex Flushable Biodegradable Cleaning Wipes.\u201d<\/strong> The product is made from plant-based materials PHA, PLA, and pulp<\/strong>, making it an innovative product that combines hygiene and environmental sustainability, with the potential to reshape the market landscape.<\/span><\/p>\n

Yuhan-Kimberly has long pursued its goal of achieving 95% of its sales from sustainable products by 2030<\/strong>, and has already expanded several innovative products, such as \u201cHuggies Nature Made\u201d diapers made with sugarcane-based biomass materials<\/strong> \u0438 \u201cKleenex paper wet wipes\u201d made with plastic-free fabric<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Applying biodegradable fabrics<\/strong> to reusable sanitary cleaning wipes<\/strong> is an extremely challenging task\u2014even for an industry-leading brand. While maintaining the performance standards required for flushable cleaning wipes, introducing more environmentally friendly materials is not easy. The solution lies in collaboration between material suppliers and manufacturers<\/strong>. The core of the new product\u2014the biodegradable fabric\u2014brings together the technological capabilities of Yuhan-Kimberly, CJ CheilJedang, and Yujin Hanil<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Through the cooperation of these three companies, the fabric is produced without any petroleum-based materials<\/strong>, using only plant-derived PHA, PLA, and FSC\u00ae-certified natural pulp<\/strong>. Tests conducted by an authoritative Korean testing institution confirmed that the material achieves more than 90% biodegradation within 45 days<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The commercialization of biodegradable fabric for sanitary wipes began in 2022<\/strong>, when Yuhan-Kimberly and CJ CheilJedang signed the \u201cGreen Action Alliance\u201d agreement<\/strong> to jointly promote a sustainable industrial ecosystem. From the research and development of PHA-based fabrics<\/strong> to the final product launch, the project required more than three years of development<\/strong>. The new product also adopts Hydro-Knit technology<\/strong>, a key technique that enhances fabric durability, ensuring the wipes remain strong even after multiple washes.<\/span><\/p>\n

To ensure safety when in contact with tableware or skin<\/strong>, the product has obtained a Dermatest \u201cExcellent\u201d rating<\/strong> and has been verified to contain none of the 26 allergenic substances listed by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety<\/strong>, as well as no microplastics<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, the wipes achieve a 99.9% antibacterial rate<\/strong> (tested against Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae<\/strong>). A representative from Yuhan-Kimberly\u2019s Kleenex division<\/strong> stated:<\/span><\/p>\n
